Welcome to the South Maui Triathlon at Wailea takes place on the island of Maui at the Wailea Beach Marriott & Spa. This is an Olympic distance triathlon.
BIKE CHECK IN: Bike check in will be from 1:00pm to 3:00 PM. on Saturday at the Hotel the day before the race. Security will be there when the transition closes until the transition opens in the morning.
GEAR BAG DROP OFF: Two (2) Transition Areas:
The 1st transition area is at the hotel where your bikes will be when you get out of the water.
The bike course will end at the corner of Kalai Waa and Wailea Ike Drive, same place as the “Event Parking” on the grass which is the 2nd transition area.
In your race packet you will have plastic draw-string bags along with a sheet of your race numbers. Use one of the small race numbers and stick it onto the outside of the plastic bag. This is how you will find your run gear bag at the 2nd transition area. If you want anything at the 2nd transition area then you need to put it in the plastic gear bag that is provided in your race packet. You will need to drop off your run gear bag the morning of the race at the 1st transition area after you are body marked. It will be taken up to the 2nd transition area and placed in numerical order. There will be volunteers there to guide you.
MANDATORY MEETING: There will be a pre-race meeting the day before race day on Sat at 3:00pm at the packet pickup ballroom. LLS will have there own pre-race meeting that evening.
EXPO/PACKET PICKUP: The expo will be open from 9:00am to 3:00 PM. on Saturday. No registration or packet pickup will be available on race morning.
BIKE TRANSITION: The bike transition will open at 4:30am on Sunday morning.
RACE START TIME: 6:00am There will be TWO heats:
- FIRST HEAT Sstart time: 6:00am – ALL MEN
- SECOND HEAT Start time: FIVE minutes later – ALL WOMEN & RELAY TEAM SWIMMERS
(Please listen carefully to any additional instruction or changes during the pre-race meeting)
PARKING: Event parking for Sunday is located at the Wailea Special Event parking lot, which is immediately on the left after entering Wailea from the highway. Please do not park at the Shops at Wailea or your car will be towed.
SWIM CAPS: Swim caps are required. One will be provided for you.
BODY MARKING / TIMING CHIP: Present your race number to get body marked and to pick up your timing chip on race morning. Timing chips must be worn during entire race in order to get a transition/finish time. (Note for Relay Teams: timing chip must be handed off at each transition)
AID STATIONS: Bike course – There will be 1 aid station with water bottles at the turn around on the bike course.
Run course – 5 aid stations will be available. (HEED & water)
FINISH LINE: Post-race refreshments will be available after the finish line. Finisher medals will be given out to all the finishers as they cross the finish line.
TIMING: Timing will be provided by Pacific Sport Events & Timing. Results will be posted that day at www.pseresults.com Finisher cards will be available the next day at www.pseresults.com and can be printed by clicking on the "Certificate" icon next to your results.

REGULATIONS: This is a USA Triathlon sanctioned race. We ask for your cooperation in following the swim-bike-run race regulations. The most common violation is drafting on the bike. NO DRAFTING ON THE BIKE..... SOUTH MAUI TRIATHLON AUDIENCE

SWIM COURSE AND GUIDELINES
Courses: 1.5K Swim Course - This very safe 1,500 meter swim will be a single loop course that will take athletes along the shore for great spectator viewing. The swim course will be monitored by life guards, jet skis and SUP. The course enters and exits from the beach fronting the Grand Wailea. Time Cut-off 7:30 AM
You can wear a suit but there are rules. Click here to see the USAT rules on wearing suits.
• PLEASE SEED YOURSELF ACCORDING TO YOUR SWIMMING ABILITY; fast in front, slower in back
• No floatation devices, fins, paddles, snorkels, etc…
40K BIKE COURSE AND GUIDELINES
The 40k bike course is one loop. As you leave the transition area, this will officially be the start of your bike leg. RIDING YOUR BIKE IN THE TRANSITION AREA IS PROHIBITED. You will be advised where to mount and begin riding out of the Marriott Beach Resort entrance.
From the Marriott entrance you will turn right onto Wailea Alanui Dr. You will then go south to the first turn-around in the middle of the road at the 3.4 mile mark. There will be a Maui Police Officer there to help with traffic. The turnaround is at the entrance drive to Makena Beach Resort Golf and Tennis Club. At that point the road is called Makena Alanui Road. After you turn around you will now be heading back north to Kaukahi Street. Kaukahi is across the road from the Kea Lani Hotel at the 5.7 mile mark. Turn right on to Kaukahi Street and proceed up this steep half-mile hill to the stop sign. Turn left at the stop sign on to Kalai Wa’a Street. Continue three-quarters of a mile until this road ends at Wailea Ike Drive. Turn right and go two-tenths of a mile to Piilani Hwy. You will turn left and ride north on Piilani Hwy. all the way through Kihei and onto Mokulele Hwy. to a turn-around point at the third bridge past the signal intersection with N. Kihei Rd.
There will be a water station there with fresh bike bottles. After you turn around you will retrace the bike route on the same side of the highway all the way back to Wailea Ike Dr. where you will make a right and go two-tenths of a mile where you will make a left on Kalai Wa’a Street and then a quick right into the NEW 2nd transition area at the "Event Grass Parking Lot".
Volunteers will be outside the transition area to advise you where to dismount and will help direct you to your gear bags. Re-rack your bike and exit the transition for the run portion of the event.
The event will provide mobile bike support on sections of this 40K course.
• Cut-off time 10:00 AM
• Participants MUST WEAR A HELMET which must be buckled before leaving the transition area.
• NO DRAFTING ON THE BIKE.....
• It is recommended to wear a bike jersey, gloves, bike shorts, and eye protection (clear lens preferably, if it is a cloudy day.)
• Riding your bike in the transition area is prohibited.
• When passing other bikers please pass on the left and yell “on your left”. Please pass safely.
• If you need to stop on the bike course or need to walk your bike in some areas, please stay on the far right side of the road.
• All competitors are required to follow the prescribed course and to stay within all directed areas. Cutting the course is an obvious violation and going outside the course is a safety issue.
• Carry a spare tube, pump or CO2 cartridges, tire levers and “drink” (i.e. water, sports drink, etc…)
RUN COURSE AND GUIDELINES
10K Run Course - The run course exits the bike transition area at the Event Parking Area and heads South on Kalai Waa Street then turns right onto Kaukahi Street and down the hill. The run will cross the intersection of Wailea Alanui Dr. onto Makena Alanui Rd. and run the length of it onto Makena Alanui Dr. Just past the Makena Surf, turn right on Makena Rd. and run to Makena Landing Beach Park where you will turn around and retrace the route back to the Marriott to the finish line. Time Cut-off 12:00 PM
• All runners are required to wear race numbers at all times during the run.
• Numbers must face the front and be clearly visible at all times, or you may receive a time penalty.
• Barefoot running is not allowed; proper shoes must be worn.
Race Amenities - all participants will receive a colorful T-shirt and finishers will receive a great medallion and complimentary massage. All participants, their family members, and volunteers are welcome to the award ceremony race morning.
Awards ceremony will be held at the finish line at approximately 10:00am on the Marriott grounds.
• Do not leave any equipment or personal gear on the race course.
• Pickup all personal items at the 1st and 2nd transition area before noon.
•The event will not be responsible for items left behind.
• Foul, harsh, argumentative or abusive language or other un-sportsman like conduct directed at race officials, USA triathlon officials, volunteers, spectators, or fellow athletes is forbidden and maybe cause for disqualification.
